Sugar foods, gambling, pot smoking--no problem practicing these in moderation for most people. But for those with addictive propensities, all three habits can be perilous.Dirk Hansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07429793255785560043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-142743152971096915.post-32623070896906840792010-06-09T10:46:52.137-05:002010-06-09T10:46:52.137-05:00That's interesting - so you would categorize c...That's interesting - so you would categorize compulsive gambling and eating as a different variety of addiction because the substance involved is a brain chemical that is only triggered in certain people by those behaviors? Wouldn't smoking pot also fall into that category, even though it's clearly a substance? Or am I misunderstanding?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-142743152971096915.post-82560932586122915702010-06-03T23:39:22.690-05:002010-06-03T23:39:22.690-05:00I don't think it is any surprise to find out t...I don't think it is any surprise to find out that there are certain characteristics among alcoholics that are common. Addictive personalities is just an old fashioned way of saying genetic predisposition. I'm pretty conservative when it comes to broadening the definition of addiction. Substance addiction requires a substance, but in the cases of certain kinds of overeating, bulimia, gambling, and shoplifting, the "substance" may simply be serotonin/dopamine surges produced by a specific behavior in specific people with addictive propensities.Dirk Hansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07429793255785560043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-142743152971096915.post-85180841521499896922010-06-03T11:46:52.149-05:002010-06-03T11:46:52.149-05:00Did you see the study about how problem gamblers&#...Did you see the study about how problem gamblers' brains 'light up' at a near miss almost as much as at a win? http://stark-raving-sober.blogspot.com/2010/05/problem-gamblers-brains-react-strongly.html 'Normal' gamblers' brains don't show the same reaction. I'm sure brain imaging will reveal similar responses for compulsive shoppers, food addicts, etc.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-142743152971096915.post-43007640398459398752010-06-03T02:26:09.151-05:002010-06-03T02:26:09.151-05:00Good Addicts information, Smoke, Gambling and Alco...Good Addicts information, Smoke, Gambling and Alcohol all are really perfect Addict's items.Chiropractic St Paul mnhttp://www.mlchiro.comnoreply@blogger.com
